(SNES) Not such a bad thing, really
Hi Folks,
Following up on Les' log entry at the FDO website, I was thinking that
sometimes things DO work out for the best. The cloudouts these past two
nights are a case in point. We'd just been getting used to weekend after
weekend of good weather, and certainly didn't want to break our string,
but.....yes......it has to rain SOMETIME! And if it has to happen, then the
weekend of the full moon is the ideal time!
This was also the first weekend of the summer where we found ourselves very
short of staff. We could have managed both nights, with Les and Joe opening
on Friday, and me tonight (Les and Joe were tied up). But the three of us
have put in some VERY long hours at the dome these past weeks. Although we
NEVER complain once we've made it to the dome, we do have families and other
obligations that we have to think of once in a while! LOL So we hope that
those who are able to contribute time to the public nights in the near future
will do so. And that applies not just to trained dome staff - we welcome all
the help we can get! :o)
At any rate, when Mother Nature decided it was time to cover our skies for a
weekend, she picked a fairly good one. I was reluctant to make tonight's "not
opening" call too soon, as I live 50 miles from FDO (the way the crow flies)
and my weather here in Webster often bears little resemblance to that of
Charlestown. However, as Les has reported, I needn't have been concerned.
Conditions everywhere ended up ranging from just poor to nearly awful. :o(
So that's it - the bad stuff is now behind us and we can start a new string
of openings. With luck we'll beat the recent record of six good Fridays out
of the last eight!
