Re: (SNES) A chance for some observing?
Guys, this weekend is STELLAFANE! Are you gonna open up the FDO and miss out
on some stellar fun up in VT this weekend?
Dave
PS I will be there vying for some of the raffle booty!

Hi everyone,
Looks like some better, drier weather is finally moving in for a couple of
days, with mostly clear conditions tonight and tomorrow night. So with no
moon around to interfere (until 1:40 AM tomorrow, and only a waning
crescent), this may be your best chance for a while o get out there for some
decent observing.
The summer Milky Way is still in all its glory, with Sagittarius just
approaching the meridian at 9 PM. Just north of it are the wonderful star
clouds of Scutum (see S&T's September issue) and the rich star fields
throughout Aquila, Sagitta and Cygnus.
At about 9:39 PM there will be a fine look at both the International Space
Station and the Space Shuttle. They will be climbing up from the NW, passing
right near Polaris
and then vanishing into Earth's shadow about 20 seconds later. It's fun to
watch the color changes as this happens; they are especially noticeable in
binoculars. Specific times for your town are available at heavens-above.com,
but they vary by only a few seconds over all of southern New England.
The forecast for FDO for Friday & Saturday again looks "iffy". But surely
Mother Nature wouldn't wash us out a third weekend in a row!
Enjoy it out there while you can,
:o)
