(SNES) I saw the Sun.

Around 6:10 PM last night while driving to the library the Sun burst
through the clouds and lit up the lush landscape around me. The trees,
bushes and gardens of New England certainly were the thankful recipients
of the last few days rain.

Although the Sun made its appearance, hopes for an evening of Astronomy
were dashed away because the many clouds that would do their "fly-bys"
over any clear areas of the heavens that contained stars. At around
10:3O PM I crabbed my binoculars with hopes to cruise the southern Milky
Way from Sagittarius. To my horror what I had seen in the sky earlier (
Mars, Sagittarius, and Scorpius) had completely disappeared behind
thick Clouds.

Turning to the north and northeast the sky was considerably clearer but
that area of the sky was rendered worthless for any sort of viewing due
to the light dome that degrades the sky. I found M31 with ease but it
was extremely dim.

Defeated by the weather again, I headed back to the apartment to be
greeted by "Ralph" the Skunk who was waiting near the fence next to the
gate to the patio. I walked within 10 feet of him before I noticed his
black and white uniform in the dark. He stopped in his tracks as I did.
As his tail went to the air I took a step backward and he ran into the
patio blocking me from my door.

I was hoping that he wasn't going to take up residence their for the
evening as I would have had to camp out under that ugly sky myself until
he left. About five minutes later he ran out for the safety of the
woods and I ran into the apartment for the safety of my La-Z-Boy.
"Skunked" again.

Stars in your eyes,
Barry Martasian
