Barry,
While I was riding my bike last night (around 6:15PM) I noticed that the Sun had two interesting bars of light forming the colors of the rainbow at about 20 degrees of each side of the Suns disk. (Not top and bottom) Is there a name for this phenomenon? And why does it do this?
They are usually called "sun dogs". They are caused by ice particles high in the atmosphere (typically above 5 miles. They are a relative of
the rainbow - and can appear as either colors or white/gray areas. Les Coleman ===== Post to the entire list by writing to snegazers@brainiac.com. Unsubscribe by mailing to majordomo@brainiac.com with the message body "unsubscribe snegazers"
