(SNES) Dob Driver
Well, I got it hooked up and the slewing works great. I just need to adjust
the balance and track of the drive gears, but it works great all powered up.
Next I will be performing tests with my laptop to see how that works with the
dob driver. I should have this hopefully up and running by CSP #11 next
weekend.
I will of course bring down the Motorized scope next chanbce I get and show
you guys how it all works.
I am cautiously excited at this point, but I need to do some more tweaking of
the drives and balance and weight. So far so good!

Subject: (SNES) An astronomer's dream
Hi everyone,
Last night was fine out there - as you all know - but here in Webster we had
quite treat from an astronomical perspective. I had set up around 8:15 for an
observing session and was enjoying a few of my favorite double stars. At
8:29, for no apparent reason, the power went out all over town! Suddenly the
skies darkened noticeably - I was actually looking at M27 at the time, and
noticed the change in the eyepiece before I realized what had happened here
in town!
Now - how widespread was the outage? And how long would the wonderful dark
skies last? (An hour or two would have been fine - after that I'd have been
concerned about freezers and things.) Well, it lasted exactly 28 minutes.
Just long for everyone in town to get out and light their candles. And for
the moon to rise!
It turns out that a main transformer had failed about a mile a way, and
nearly the whole town of 16,500 was thrown into the dark. I imagine that I
was one of the few who actually enjoyed it!
Let's all get out there again tonight. The moon doesn't rise until 9:16,
giving us over an hour of dark skies until then.
And I hope to see most of you at FDO tomorrow, as the unusual stretch of
settled weather continues!
:o)
