Hi Les,
I have no doubt that we can locate Himalia, if we're determined. More
difficult than Pluto, certainly, but well within reach using the Palomar
plate as a guide.
But Amalthea will be REALLY tough. I recall seeing some 11th and 12th
magnitude stars quite close to Jupiter in months past, but a 14.1 magnitude
pinprick just 36" off the planet's edge? Boy, an eyepiece with an occulting
bar would be a real asset; maybe I can rig up something. In any case, I'll
make sure my 6.7mm Ultrawide (606X) is clean and ready to go!
Let's hope for some nice clear air!
