And a very OLD spot it is. In fact M41 and M31 are among the deep space 
objects first observed by humankind. Aristotle wrote about both!

I've often wondered how this idea jibes with reports from antiquity that 
describe Sirius as being a red star. Hmmmm........ 

We're only talking about a few thousand years, though. Doesn't seem likely 
that the "Pup" could have evolved to white dwarf status so quickly.
