Hi Everyone,Actually, I don't see any insurmountable problems with a star party. There will be all sorts of logistical problems (plumbing, police coverage, town approvals, gate coverage) but all of them CAN be accommodated. Ninigret Park already host two "campout" type events so
all the details can be negotiated. Our peculiar coastal weather is the greatest caveat emptor but the fall is reasonably promising.
If you like a somewhat upscale camping, the nicest public State Park in Rhode Island (Burlingame) with facilities for all sorts of campers, as well as nice fresh water beaches (etc.) is less than two miles from our entrance (basically turn the other way on Route 1).
For those such as my old aching bones, there are MANY available motel rooms and even beach homes within a very short distance. Chowing down is rather bi-polar either VERY VERY Upscale or VERY VERY MickyD.
Yours truly simply does not have the time right now to host such an event, but if we get someone to head this activity, I see no reason it can't fly.

Now the question begs - with FDO being one of darkest viewing sites in southern New England, why hasn't it brought the area some welcome tourism by hosting a star party or two of its own? This was a great thought, Doug! Could attendees camp somewhere in the Park? That is a critical feature of the other events you named - TSP, WSP, NSP, and also a Canadian event that you DIDN'T name, larger than all three of those, which is hosted by the astronomy club of North York, Ontario and is known as StarFest. Basically, you drive or "ship&fly" yourself and your telescope once, set up your tent (or hotel room if you prefer) once, and then you observe for several nights running - if you're lucky. :) Could that be accommodated at or near Ninigret?
