(SNES) That Elusive Pup!

Like my girlfriend's Norwegian Elkhound puppy, Sirius B is hard to get
my hands on--or should I say eye on? I can sometimes lure the elkhound
within my grasp with a Stop&Shop dog treat, but making an eyepiece
occulting bar out of a dog treat proved too difficult. I therefore
resorted to more mundane occulting material like black paper and
aluminum foil.

I first learned about the Pup in the mid-fifties after a friend
purchased Norton's Star Atlas. I still use my circa 1960 edition of
Norton's -- a great reference and star atlas work! Since I use
"offsetting" to locate most objects, I haven't had the need to buy the
latest astronomical software ot atlas; the Epoch 1950 Becvar Atlas of
the Heavens was my last purchase in this area, and the self-created PSC
for locating dsos.

What is the spectral class of the Pup? Les feels the Pup is bluer than
Sirius, thus possibly easier to see employing a blue or violet filter as
we tried at our VFN. S&T had a picture of the Pup in infrared and it
appears brighter than Sirius, so would a red filter assist in seeing the
Pup visually?

If it's clear tonight, I'll try again for the Pup. Until I spot it, the
Pup will enjoy prancing and frolicking unseen in the glare of Sirius.

See you next clear, moonless night at FDO (2010?)!

Ernie
