Re: (SNES) Eyepiece Cleaning
I would suggest getting some new clips or making a set of new ones with more
clearance. Obviously if your getting pinched optics and you cannot loosen up
your clips, then you might wanna change the clips.
As far as cleaning my optics, I use lens cleaning solution and those oh so
soft and fine lens cleaning tissues available at your local camera shops.
That's for my eyepieces. As for my mirror, I use de-ionized water running down
the mirror, then I apply ivory soap on cotton balls and only using the weight
of the cotton ball itself as I drag it across the mirror. After I am sure I
get all the dirt off the mirror, U again wash the mirror with the de-ionized
water. I then let acetone run down the mirror and then use my breath or very
short burst of an air spray from about a foot away to dry off the acetone.
This usually gets my mirror spotless.

Subject: (SNES) Eyepiece Cleaning
Being from the "old" school, I clean my eyepieces with alcohol and a
"Q-Tip" after blowing them off with a syringe bulb or dusting with a
camel hair brush. Although this usually gives acceptable results,
sometimes it appears the alcohol leaves residue even though I use a very
small amount of it. Okay-- how do you folks clean your optics? This old
dog is open to new tricks if they do the job. Also, has anyone had
experience with how to correct a primary mirror that is pinched in its
cell? My 6" f/4 star test image reverses orientation on either side of
focus, indicative of a pinched primary. Obviously I can't loosen the
mirror's retaining clips too much; they are as when I bought the scope
in '72.
