Re: (SNES) Rockin' and Rollin' in New England

Seems you were awake enough to notice the earthquake! I slept through it
actually. Quite surprising that a magnitude 5.1 quake would happen up
here. Its a good wake up call to us new englanders to show us that mother
earth isn't asleep. I may have 'sensed' something was going on that
morning, but I was so out of it due to being up late the night before that
I managed to miss the event. My wife also tends to sleep through
earthquakes... even those that occurred where she grew up near Kobe
Japan. Thankfully she wasn't in Kobe when the big one hit in the 90's. Her
family was OK, but the house she grew up in was totally destroyed. I guess
I slept through it all due to sheer exhaustion. I think she slept through
it due to growing up with shakes and rumbles. Truthfully, i've run into
quite a few shakers. I lived in Izmir Turkey for a few years as a child.
My father was stationed there in the Air Force. I remember one biggie hit
one afternoon. I must have been maybe 5 years old. The apartment
building we were in was shaking wildly, I looked out the apartment across
the balcony, and saw buildings moving around.. and an airliner coming in
for a landing off in the distance (I think he aborted the landing). When
the quake ended, I just saw this cloud of dust rising from the city.
Thankfully it wasn't much stronger. It must have been 6 point something.
I then recall seeing a large new crack in the stairwell of the apartment
building.. running nearly the entire length from first floor up to maybe
the 8th floor. Of course, over there they don't have strict regulations
like they do here in the US. Everyone remained in the building, and
truly, Its possible the crack was not fixed or the building inspected.
Scary stuff.

Now, hopefully the quake didn't knock my scope out of collimation!

Gary.
