Re: (SNES) Planetary Alignment Photos

Hi Guys,

Using the 16" for long term photos from the camera perch doesn't really hack it. With the derotator synched to the scope's built in computer and the rest of the alt-azimuth stuff going we can do a pretty good job of keeping the camera aligned BUT we'll be looking through the main OTA. Great for deep space stuff and lousy for wide angle stuff.

I've spent a few minutes unearthing all my circa 1968 gear which allows a Questar to act as a free standing camera platform. In spite of numerous moves about North America and Europe, everything seems to be there. I'm charging up the power pack and we can set the Questar up as a camera mount tonight. I've even brought some sacrificial film which has been hanging around for sometime (ASA 100 and ASA 800).

Since the 16" time is at a premium, I think this offers a reasoanble alternative if all we want to do is piggyback a camera on an equitorial drive.
