Dave and Barry,
I have wondered for several years if there are TWO objects with the "Coat
Hanger" moniker. The NGCIC website lists NGC 6802 in Vulpecula as the "Coat
Hanger" and also as Collinder 400-- this object has a visual mag of 8.8 and a
size of only 3.2 arcminutes, hardly an impressive binocular sight!.
Over the years I have also run across references to the "Coat
Hanger--Coathanger (?)" as being a nice sight in binoculars and referred to as
"Brocchi's Cluster!" Can anyone shed any light on this? Dave what is your
source for the "Coathanger" being Collinder 399? Several galaxies are known as
the "Pinwheel Galaxy," is the "Coathanger in the same boat?
Ernie
