(SNES) Cygnus

Frustrated by yet another cloudy Friday night at FDO, I yielded to the
glories of the Swan early this morning despite the ever-present light
pollution. At 1 am I slipped clothes over my pjs and set up my trusty 4"
reflector on the deck within 5 minutes. First target was the Eastern
Veil--totally invisible without filter, but rather nice in my Orion
Ultrablock. No luck again with the Cocoon Nebula. M29 & M39 were very
nice with a wideband filter. The North America Nebula was very washed
out and disappointing. I spent most of the time just sweeping the rich
Milky Way in Cygnus at low power. The highlight of this session was a
slow, long Alpha Cygni meteor heading east immediately followed by an
Alpha Perseid meteor heading west almost along the track of the first
one! All in all a great hour under the stars.

BTW, astronomy.com's website says Aug.11/12 is the best night for the
Perseids; S&T says Aug. 12/13. Les, are we on for the shower at FDO and
if so when?
