Ooops my once trusty calculator has given up the ghost. It "calculates"
correctly but the liquid crystal display doesn't form
the digits correctly. The combined magnitudes aren't quite right. Here are
the actual values

2.35 =  4.95&2.45 (total of Beta2 and "Beta1")
4.95 = 5.11&7.11 (sum of Beta2's components)
2.45 = 3.07&3.35 (sum of Beta1's line of sight components)

The odd arithmetic isn't wrong, just odd. Adding stellar magnitudes is a
logarithmic addition to the base fifth root of 100.
