Hi Les,
Little did we know that using your the AR-14 Cloud Dispersal Unit, so
effective at clearing away cloud banks (along with just about everything else
in the atmosphere) would result in a follow-up problem. Yep, blasting those
clouds away allowed radiational cooling, and on summer nights that means just
one thing: FOG!
So the genesis and refinement of your "jumbo hair dryer" certainly comes as
good news. In the interest of our collective life and limb it may have to be
stationed on a barge a few miles offshore, but that will be only a minor
inconvenience. We'll just have to be sure it doesn't get turned around and
pointed at Block Island - the partygoers out there rely on regular fogs as an
excuse not to head back to the mainland after dark!
Last night here in Florida we sure could have used both of your inventions. I
went outside with high hopes at 3:30 AM. Quite delightful, really. 75
degrees, calm, peaceful. But also about 95% overcast. So there was no decent
Perseid viewing down here either, darn it all.
I haven't seen many reports from elsewhere in the USA yet, but maybe
somebody got lucky.
God luck with additional test runs the next foggy night!
:o)
