Thanks to you and Michael for the sad heads up. Unfortunately this is the
downside of the much vaunted economic surge of the 1990s. The wealth effect
convinced lots of people that they had stronger sales potential than they
did in reality. Several companies including Lumicon required a sense of
surplus wealth among its purchasers to be viable. The company we bought our
observatory's scope from (Pocono Mountain Optics) is gone as well. They had
just tried to expand into what they saw as a great market out in
Nevada/California in a growth market. Still I guess there is hope when
Questar launches a $5400 attachment for their $6900 100mm (3.5") telescope.
That from a company that was in Chapter 11 not so long ago. Fingers
crossed - I want to continue to be able to send my Questar back for
clean-ups and refurbishings for another quarter century.
