(SNES) Asteroid Occultation

Les,

I, too, saw no occultation. I had my 7X50 binoculars mounted on my old
1" refractor 5' tripod and was definitely on the correct star field, and
able to observe comfortably seated. I even spent $6.00 to buy batteries
for my 40-year-old shortwave radio, which I tuned to CHU Canada for
precise time signals. With my portable tape recorder running and
makeshift light shields in place (my front yard is like Times Square and
backyard loaded with trees), I started observing the event at 20:43
EST. As my luck would have it, a small cloud passed over the star field
at 20:47:33 until 20:50, completely obscuring my view! Hence, I can't
really say if the occultation was visible at my location at the
predicted time of 20:48.3-.4 or not. Playing back the tape at 21:00, I
realize I made some less-than- scientific impromptu comments about
that #$!!*@& cloud!

The tail end of the Venus transit on June 8, 2004 is supposed to be
visible from our area, but you know our friends the clouds!!!

Thanks for checking the asteroid occultation out, maybe we'll catch one
before we pass on?

Ernie
