(SNES) IAU Astronomical Telegrams

Most of you know this, but if you are one of the folks lucky enough to make an astronomical
discovery, the proper way to
report it, receive credit if due, etc.etc. is to send what is quaintly refered to as an
Astronomical Telegram to the International Astronomical Union. Claiming a discovery by
rushing to your local radio station is a no no for newbies. Originally telegrams were used
to send these claims and the IAU would then send postcards to anyone who would pay for the
service. Today all this is handled through e-mails of course.

So how do you find the proper IAU URL? If you go to the IAU you will see zillions of
things. I suggest that you use the
Links section in the Frosty Drew Observatory Website, go to Resources & IAU from the pull
down menu and click on
Astronomical Telegrams (near the top of the list).

Good hunting and I hope you get mentioned in dispatches.
