Re: (SNES) PBS Special
Mike Aramini on the ATMOB mailing list was kind enough to provide the
following info on the PBS special. Thought i'd share on his behalf.
Been so busy at work.. haven't touched the scope in 3 1/2 months. Hope I
can make it home by 8 to see this show.

The series is based on the book by physicist Brian Greene entitled _The
Elegant Universe_. The 3rd hour of the show will be broadcast next
Tuesday.
It case you miss tonight's broadcast, the show will be rebroadcast on

Thu./Fri., Oct 31, 4am, WGBH 2
Fri./Sat., Nov 1, 2:30am, WBGH 2
Saturday, Nov 1, 12pm WGBX 44
If you are programming your VCR or digital recording to device to
record one of these broadcasts, remember to record for 2 hours.
For those of you unfamiliar with string theory, it attempts to unify
the seemingly contradictory theories of general relativity, which can
deal with very large scales, and quantum mechanics, which can deal with
very small scales, into a single theory that works at all scales. The
theory, though, is controversial in the physics community since it
predicts that in addition to the 4 space-time dimensions (3 spatial and
1 time) we are all familiar with, there are 6 or 7 additional
"curled-up" space-time dimensions.
BTW, I attended Brian Greene's talk on this topic at the Boston Museum
of Science this past Saturday.
