Frequently Asked Questions [FAQs]

Can people outside the southern New England area subscribe?

Certainly, however many of the topics will be of interest to only those people in the general area of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island - such as favorite local dark sky haunts.

Do S.N.E. Gazers have a set of censorship guidelines?

Not as such , but we do require that you keep things civil! Members of email lists can occasionally disagree. This is fine as long as the tone is kept respectful. Only when the language descends into the pit of disrespect will the moderator step in.

Is S.N.E. Gazers funded by a manufacturer or a retailer?

Not at all, nor do we carry advertizing. While many S.N.E. Gazers members are also members of various astronomical clubs and organizations (particularly Frosty Drew Observatory), this email list is not affliated with any outside organization. While member endorsements of products are reasonable and even desirable, we draw the line at SPAM {of any kind} and blatently commercial emails.

Why is HTML highlighting and fonts removed?

Many of our members receive S.N.E. Gazer posts via e-mail. Some browsers do not support HTML, and many recipients prefer simple text. We strip HTML out of posts for those of you whose systems produce HTML. You have the ability to avoid posting HTML to S.N.E. Gazers if you set the appropriate Property under both Netscape and Internet Explorer.

How do I post images?

We do not provide an archive for images. If you append images to a posted e-mail, the image will be stripped. Of course you may save the image in any server and place the URL in your post.

A suggestion for keeping reply's to posts to a minimum.

Don't include the original post if it is not germain to your response. If the original post sender had five points and you are only responding to one, copying the others is extraneous. Do not copy the automatically generated section at the bottom of the post which explains how to be removed from S.N.E. Gazers.

A suggestion for keeping certain posts and replies private.

Remember that everything you post to S.N.E. Gazers is viewable by everyone. So if you don't think that a response is appropriate for everyone, perhaps an off-line e-mail is better.
